The Texas Tech Red Raiders opened up the season on Saturday night in Houston to take on the Houston Cougars, and a familiar face was in the stands. Former Tech, and current Kansas City Chiefs and Super Bowl winning QB Patrick Mahomes was in attendance at NRG Stadium.
Mahomes appeared in a photo prior to the game with Kent Hance, who serves as chancellor emeritus of the Texas Tech University System.
Hance shared the photo on Twitter prior to kick off.
Mahomes has remained very active in Texas Tech athletics. When reports started surfacing that Chris Beard would leave Tech to become the head basketball coach at Texas, Mahomes made a very public plea for Beard to stay in Lubbock. He’s also purchased blocks of tickets to Texas Tech football games for community outreach.
Despite the fact that Texas Tech never had the success they should’ve had with Mahomes as their signal caller (it’s amazing his career ended with a 66-10 loss to Iowa State), the two sides still have a great relationship, which Texas Tech should be leveraging at every turn possible.
