Texas-Gonzaga Matchup Highlights Longhorns Non-Conference Schedule

NCAA Basketball: Texas Tech at Texas

The Texas Longhorns will face Gonzaga on Nov. 13 and host former Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes, as the Longhorns released their 2021-22 non-conference schedule on Tuesday.

The game with Gonzaga had been previously announced by both schools. It’s part of a home-and-home series that will see the Bulldogs return the favor in 2022.

As for Barnes, he and the Tennessee Volunteers will visit Austin on Jan. 29 as part of the Big 12-SEC Challenge. Barnes coached the Longhorns for more than a decade and took them to a Final Four.

Texas will play nearly all of their games at home under new head coach Chris Beard, as the Longhorns open the regular season on Nov. 9 against Houston Baptist. The Longhorns will host an exhibition game on Nov. 1 against Texas Lutheran.

This season also marks the debut of the Abe Lemons Classic, a week-long classic that will see the Longhorns host Northern Colorado, San Jose State and Cal Baptist from Nov. 17-24.

The Longhorns’ two trips away from Austin include a Dec. 9 visit to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, to face Seton Hall in the Big 12-Big East Battle, and a Dec. 19 visit to Las Vegas to face Stanford in the Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Challenge.

But, perhaps the most unique game on the schedule is Texas’ Nov. 29 home game with Sam Houston. Gregory Gymnasium will host the game. Gregory Gym is named for one of the first 13 graduates of Texas, Thomas Watt Gregory, and served as the home of UT basketball for 46 years.
