Gary Patterson Gets Odds to be Next USC Head Coach

One of the biggest jobs in college football is now open after USC fired head coach Clay Helton on Monday, two days after his team lost to Stanford.
Now with a blue blood looking for a new head coach, the question is who will be on their short list?
Well the sportsbooks always enjoy putting together a list to try and figure out who the favorites might be, and TCU head coach Gary Patterson, while not a favorite, has at least made the list.
FAVORITE TO BE NEXT USC FOOTBALL COACH
Luke Fickell | 13/2 |
P.J. Fleck | 13/2 |
Mario Cristobal | 7/1 |
Matt Campbell | 15/2 |
Urban Meyer | 15/2 |
James Franklin | 17/2 |
Bob Stoops | 9/1 |
Tony Elliott | 9/1 |
Chris Petersen | 10/1 |
Gary Patterson | 10/1 |
Joe Morehead | 10/1 |
Greg Schiano | 14/1 |
Graham Harrell | 16/1 |
Bill O’Brien | 19/1 |
Joe Brady | 20/1 |
Lane Kiffin | 25/1 |
Mike Gundy | 25/1 |
As you can see, Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell, plus Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy made the list as well, but it certainly sounds like it’s Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell’s to turn down.
CBS Sports had a similar report on Monday night that Luke Fickell was the front runner, and if he turned it down, Bob Stoops could end up getting a call.
As for Patterson, considering he’s been the head coach in Fort Worth for 20+ years and has a statue outside the stadium, I find it highly unlikely he’s a serious contender for this job. But if you know something we don’t, maybe a little coin at 10/1 odds makes sense for you. But I’m not holding my breath.
