Remember just a few weeks ago when everyone was screaming “The Big 12 is dead” from the top of their lungs? From the national media to the average college football fan, nobody thought the Big 12 would survive.
Since then, the Big 12 has made a few changes. Texas and Oklahoma are still bolting for the SEC, but the conference has added schools such as BYU, Houston, Cincinnati, and UCF.
While all those other things I just mentioned are what I call “”offseason talk” or “off-the-field talk”, keep in mind, we are playing football where on-the-field results matter. As much as people have given the Big 12 a hard time, they have been doing just fine on the field.
All this realignment talk seems to have messed with peoples heads a bit and their way of thinking. Maybe they have a narrative they need to stick with for whatever reason but the excuses I have seen this year have been questionable at best.
Remember that photo of the UCLA opening game? The stands were almost empty and while logical people were wondering why, others were busy making excuses like this one.
The excuses did not stop there either.
Someone made a comment below this saying that the Texas A&M/Kent State drew only 285k for an 8 p.m. time slot. Stew’s response? It was on ESPNU and not ESPN. But hey, whatever fits his narrative right?
And before the season started, he also said this.
I forgot, how this has helped the Pac-12 over the years. Like not having a playoff team since 2016 Washington or their 11-20 bowl record over the last five years. In fact, the Pac-12 has won just one NY6 bowl game over the last four seasons. So not only are they not making the playoffs, but they also aren’t even showing up in their big bowl games.
But those are things of the past. What about this season? So far, the Pac-12 has had 16 non-conference losses this season. To give you an idea of how bad the conference has been, they have lost five to the Mountain West Conference and two to FCS teams. Also, the new look Big 12 is a perfect 5-0 against the conference out west that is supposedly ‘superior’ to the Big 12.
Those people who were defending the Pac-12 before the season are sure getting quieter and quieter by the week and at some point, these national talking heads will run out of excuses for that sub-par conference out west.
This website was started due to the lack of respect for the Big 12. Nobody wanted to give the conference a fair shake and that is why we are here doing what we do each and every day. Places like ESPN, CBS and other big named outlets won’t do that. They are busy trying to fill us full of garbage most of the time and shove whatever their narratives are down our throats. Well, I, for one, have had enough and it’s long overdue to start calling it out. Sometimes we can get blinded by stats or headlines, but at the end of the day, don’t forget about what happens on the field because that is what truly matters.
