Big 12-SEC Challenge Features Tennessee-Texas in prime-time slot

big 12 sec challenge

Tennessee and Texas will face each other in the final game of the Big 12-SEC Challenge on Jan. 29, marking the return of former Longhorns coach Rick Barnes to Austin.

The Big 12 and SEC announced the game times for all 10 Big 12-SEC Challenge contests, but the prime-time event — set for 7 p.m. central on ESPN — is sure to draw attention.

Barnes coached at Texas for 17 seasons, leading the Longhorns to 402 wins and a trip to the 2003 Final Four. Texas parted ways with Barnes after the 2014-15 season, during which Barnes led the Longhorns to 20 wins. He took over at Tennessee that offseason and has led the Vols to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet 16.

The game will mark his first trip to Austin as a coach since 2015. He’ll square off against Chris Beard, who took over Texas this offseason after he was lured from Texas Tech to take over his alma mater’s basketball program.

TCU plays the only game in the morning, hosting LSU at 11 a.m. There are three games in the 1 p.m. window — Oklahoma at Auburn, West Virginia at Arkansas and Missouri at Iowa State. Then, at 3 p.m., Baylor faces Alabama, Kansas State faces Ole Miss and Oklahoma State faces Florida. Kansas then hosts Kentucky at 5 p.m.

Game times and television networks are subject to change.
