2021-22 Big 12 Basketball Top 25 Returning Players: Christian Braun
Christian Braun is a part of our Heartland College Sports Big 12 men’s Top 25 returning players countdown as we get closer to the 2021-22 college basketball season opener.
No. 24: Christian Braun, G, Kansas
Where he left off: Braun was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection, and he’s one of those players that doesn’t get much attention, but he always produces. In various ways. He was second on Kansas with 52 3-pointers last season, and when he made three or more the Jayhawks were 7-1. He was a Top 15 3-point shooter in the conference. He had his first double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Oklahoma, and for a guard he’s a quality rebounder. He averaged 9.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists last season. While he only shot 34 percent from the 3-point line, he shot 44 percent from the arc the season before.
Where he’s headed: Braun’s production might be the same as last season with the addition of Remy Martin via transfer. However, Braun gives the Jayhawks five players that can average double figures every night. Braun may get more scoring opportunities early as defenses focus closely on Martin and Ochai Agbaji. That can work in Kansas’ favor with Braun’s shooting ability. As a defender, Braun will probably end up with the opponent’s top guard, and he’ll make that player work all night. Braun could end up toggling out of the starting lineup at some point, based on how other players develop and how Kansas chooses to use veteran guard Jalen Coleman-Lands. But entering the season, based on what is coming back, Braun is certainly a Top 25 returning player.
