NaLyssa Smith, Ashley Joens Among Players Headed for Big 12 Media Day

NCAA Basketball: Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

NaLyssa Smith, the reigning Big 12 Women’s Player of the Year, and Ashley Joens are among 19 players headed to Big 12 women’s basketball media day next week.

The league’s coaches, players and media will be in Kansas City on Oct. 19 for interviews. Media day is closed to the public, but it will be streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ beginning at 12 pm CT.

Smith was named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year last week by a vote of the league’s coaches. Smith is also the defending WBCA National Player of the Year award winner was named a First-Team All-American by AP, WBCA, Wooden and  ESPN.com after averaging 18 points and 8.9 rebounds per game last season.

 

Jones was an All-Big 12 First Team selection last season for the Cyclones.

Kansas: Holly Kersgieter, Zakiyah Franklin

Kansas State: Ayoka Lee, Emilee Ebert

Oklahoma: Madi Williams, Taylor Robertson

Oklahoma State: Lauren Fields, Taylen Collins

TCU: Lauren Heard, Tavy Diggs

Texas: Joanne Allen-Taylor, Audrey Warren

Texas Tech: Vivian Gray, Taylah Thomas

West Virginia: KK Deans, Esmery Martinez

Baylor and Texas are both coming off appearances in the Elite Eight of last year’s NCAA Tournament. Baylor lost its head coach, Kim Mulkey, and hired Nicki Collen to replace her. Iowa State, Oklahoma State and West Virginia also made the NCAA Tournament and each won a first-round game.
