Four Thoughts on Kansas State’s 31-12 Win Over TCU

It may have not been the flashiest matchup in the Big 12 this weekend but it was certainly an important one.

Both teams needed a win on Saturday to keep their bowl hopes alive. TCU was fresh off a bad loss to West Virginia last week as they fell to 3-4 while Kansas State needed a big second half comeback to beat Texas Tech on the road to get to 4-3.

This was one of those swing games to determine how the rest of the season would play out and luckily for Kansas State, things turned their way as they put a beatdown on TCU. Here are my four thoughts on Kansas State’s 31-12 win over the Horned Frogs.

1. King Felix Was Unstoppable

Could anyone block Kansas State defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah on Saturday afternoon? Apparently not because Felix tied an NCAA record with six sacks against TCU. He absolutely crushed the TCU offense all game long and he made it look easy out there. Felix was caused havoc throughout the day and not only should he be the Big 12 defensive player of the week but the defensive national player of the week as well. I have been covering Big 12 football for the last six years and this was the most impressive defensive performance by a player I have ever seen.

2. Kansas State Will Make a Bowl Game and More

The Wildcats needed a win against TCU to keep their bowl hopes alive and they did in a big way. Kansas State dominated TCU on both sides of the ball and are now 5-3 after their victory. Next week Kansas State gets to play Kansas over in Lawrence and that should be the game that gets them to that magical sixth win. However, I do believe this Kansas State team can do more. After Kansas they play West Virginia, Baylor, and Texas to finish out the season. Is it crazy to say that this team could be 8-4 after the Texas game? I don’t think so at all. It feels like we are a long way from the eight-game conference losing streak just a few weeks ago.

3. That Was a Crazy Fight

I have seen plenty of crazy things this season, but I have yet to see a fight and we got one in Manhattan, Kansas. TCU’s Josh Foster took this shot against Kansas State quarterback Skylar Thompson that started it all.

Then a fight broke out after that where plenty of punches were thrown. In the end, three players would be ejected.

4. TCU is a Bad Football Team

There is no other way to describe this football team right now. They are playing bad football and last week looked like the breaking point for the program. The defense continues to struggle, and they offense is stuck in reverse. I know there were questions about Max Duggan before the game, but he did not play great against Kansas State. Chandler Morris came in to relieve him but that did not work either. Zach Evans being out didn’t help at all but in their last eight quarters of football, this offense has scored two touchdowns. That’s pathetic and as I mentioned earlier this week, it is time to start questioning Gary Patterson’s job at TCU. This is a broken team right now that is in a serious funk. There is no way that this team is making a bowl game after their loss to Kansas State.
