Seven Big 12 Teams Make Initial Bowl Projections

Seven Big 12 teams are projected to make bowl games, according to, which announced its first projections on Wednesday. waited until the first College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night to announce their first projections.

Oklahoma, which is 9-0 and idle this week, is projected to face Auburn in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day. The Sooners were No. 8 in the College Football Playoff’s initial Top 25, but face games against Baylor, Iowa State and Oklahoma State to end the season.


Oklahoma State, the Big 12’s second-highest ranked team in the College Football Playoff’s initial Top 25, is projected to face Arkansas in the Texas Bowl on Jan. 4.

Baylor, which right now is the Big 12’s third ranked team in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, is projected to face Arizona State in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.

Iowa State, which is one win away from bowl eligibility, is projected to face NC State in the Cheez-It Bowl on Dec. 29.

Kansas State, which needs only a win over Kansas this Saturday to reach six wins and bowl eligibility, is projected to face Maryland in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Dec. 28.

Texas Tech needs only one win to reach bowl eligibility. Right now, the Red Raiders are projected to face future Big 12 member Houston in the First Responder Bowl on Dec. 28.

Texas, which is currently two wins away from bowl eligibility, is projected to face Mississippi State in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 28.

West Virginia is also two wins away from bowl eligibility, but is not projected to make a bowl game right now.

Along with Houston, the other three future Big 12 members were projected to make bowl games.

BYU is projected to face UTEP in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 18. UCF is projected to face Appalachian State in the Cure Bowl on Dec. 17. Cincinnati is projected to face Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1.
