BYU (7-2, W 66-49 VS. VIRGINIA)

RB Lopini Katoa

Tyler Allgeier has over 1,000 yards on the season already. He’s not going to win the Heisman, but he probably will have carries in the first half just to stay in rhythm. This game will likely be Katoa’s chance to show what he’s capable of. The 6-foot-1, 215 pound junior running back has 201 yards and one touchdown. There’s no reason to risk injury to Allgeier in a game against an FCS school with just one victory.

LB Ben Bywater

Can the freshman finally get his first turnover? He’s the leader in tackles, but has yet to force a turnover. If he can get the monkey off his back, it might provide a little bit of confidence moving forward.

WR Tanner Conner

The Idaho State offense is atrocious. It’s averaging one passing touchdown per game. Three of those are from leading receiver Conner. He’s the only receiver even close to 500 yards. His longest reception went for 71 yards. Conner has the most receptions with 28, three of which are for touchdowns.

CB Jayden Dawson

Dawson is one of three players to record an interception, and he has two of the team’s four. The 5-foot-10, 185 pound junior from Riverside, Calif. is third on the team for tackles with 45. He leads the team with 35 solo tackles. One of those two interceptions was a pick-six. He’s scored as many touchdowns with an interception as any Idaho State player has scored rushing. Yes, the offense is that bad.

For BYU, it’s all about staying healthy. The Cougars can secure a 10-win season by winning out. This would be huge momentum moving forward as BYU builds for its future in the Big 12 Conference. The Cougars are 5-1 against Power Five teams and they still have one more game to go. BYU opened up at No.16 in the College Football Playoff rankings. If Cincinnati slips up, the Cougars could steal the Group of Five slot in a New Year’s Six bowl.

Could a win over BYU save their coach’s job? Probably not. He’s been there since 2017 and only has one victory this season. There’s not much to talk about here. This is Idaho State’s “Super Bowl”.

Prediction: BYU 56 Idaho State 3

I don’t think BYU tries to run up the score. There’s really nothing to play for here. The key for BYU is to make sure this doesn’t become a game. BYU has everything to lose and absolutely nothing to win. In fact, just by playing this game, BYU has already lost. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if the Cougars dropped in the College Football Playoff rankings even if BYU broke the record for largest margin of victory which came Oct 7, 1916 when John Heisman coached Georgia Tech to a 222-0 victory over Cumberland College.
