Trevor Carter Becomes Cincinnati’s Highest-Ranked Defensive Commit Ever

Linebacker Trevor Carter committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats on Tuesday, making him the highest-ranked defensive recruit to commit to the Bearcats, per 247Sports.com.

The Bearcats are currently undefeated and in the mix for the College Football Playoff, which releases its second set of rankings on Tuesday night. The Bearcats are also future members of the Big 12 and are expected to join the league no later than the fall of 2024.

Carter, who is a member of the Class of 2023, announced his commitment to the Bearcats on Twitter.

Carter represents a huge get for the Bearcats. Per 247Sports.com, Carter is a four-star recruit. In the 247Sports Composite rankings, which includes all recruiting services, Carter is the No. 259 recruit nationally, the No. 26 recruit at his position and the No. 5 recruit in Ohio.

When it comes to just 247Sports.com’s rankings, he’s considered No. 114 nationally, No. 10 at his position and No. 4 in Ohio.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker from Ironton, Ohio, had 19 offers. The Power 5 schools that had offered him included Arkansas, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Pitt, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Carter is the third player to commit to the Bearcats for 2023. The others are Miamisburg, Ohio, offensive lineman A.J. Salley, and Youngstown Ohio, athlete Jason Hewlett. Before Carter’s commitment, 247Sports.com ranked the Bearcats with the No. 29 class in the country for 2023.

The Big 12 will have three new members in the next few years. BYU will join the conference in 2023, while Cincinnati, Houston and UCF are expected to join in 2024. They are replacing Oklahoma and Texas, which are leaving for the SEC in the Fall of 2025.
