Six Big 12 teams are projected to make bowl games, according to BowlSeason.com, which announced its second projections on Wednesday.
BowlSeason.com waited until the second College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night to announce their first projections.
Oklahoma, which is 9-0 and faces Baylor this week, is still projected to play in the Sugar Bowl. But now their opponent is projected to be future SEC rival Texas A&M. The Sooners were No. 8 in the College Football Playoff’s second Top 25, but face Iowa State and Oklahoma State to end the season, after playing Baylor on Saturday.
Oklahoma State, the Big 12’s second-highest ranked team in the College Football Playoff’s second Top 25, is now projected to face Arizona State in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29. The Cowboys were projected last week to face Arkansas in the Texas Bowl.
Baylor, which is the Big 12’s third ranked team in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, saw its projection change from the Alamo Bowl to the Texas Bowl, and the Bears are now projected to play LSU on Jan. 4.
Iowa State, which defeated Texas on Saturday and is now bowl-eligible, did not see its projected bowl or opponent change. The Cyclones are still projected to face NC State in the Cheez-It Bowl on Dec. 29.
Kansas State, which is now bowl eligible after beating Kansas, had its bowl projection change from the Guaranteed Rate Bowl to a matchup with Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl in Dec. 28.
Texas Tech, which needs only one win to reach bowl eligibility, is now projected into the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Kansas State’s place, as they would face Maryland on Dec. 28. The Red Raiders just hired their new head coach, Joey McGuire.
Texas, which was projected to face Mississippi State in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 28 last week, fell out of the bowl projections after losing to Iowa State.
All four future Big 12 members are projected to play in bowl games.
Houston is projected to face Coastal Carolina in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on Dec. 20. BYU is projected to face UAB in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 18. UCF is projected to face Appalachian State in the Cure Bowl on Dec. 17. Cincinnati is projected to face Michigan State in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1.
