PJ Haggerty became the first member of TCU’s 2022 men’s basketball recruiting class when he signed with the Horned Frogs during the early-signing period on Wednesday.
Haggerty is a 6-foot-3 combo guard who plays for Crosby High School in Crosby, Texas. At the moment, 247Sports.com ranks him as the No. 172 recruit in the country. The site also ranked TCU’s class at No. 8 in the Big 12 and No. 82 overall.
The early-signing period ends on Nov. 17. The traditional signing window starts in April.
Haggerty averaged 33.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.2 steals per game for Crosby High School last season and earned district MVP honors.
TCU is coming off a season in which it saw some of the highest player turnover in the Big 12, with the majority of the roster either transferring or moving on to the professional ranks. The leading returning scorer is guard Mike Miles. The sophomore played with Team USA in the Under-19 World Cup under the guidance of his TCU head coach, Jamie Dixon.
The Horned Frogs worked the transfer portal, but their 2021 recruiting class featured one junior college signee, 7-foot center Souleymane Doumbia. Transfers of note included former Texas A&M forward Emanuel Miller, Texas Tech forward Micah Peavy and UT-Arlington guard Shahada Wells.
TCU is set to open the regular season against McNeese State on Thursday in Fort Worth.
