Michayla Gatewood Leads Kansas State Signing Class

NCAA Basketball: Kansas State at Saint Louis

Michayla Gatewood is the centerpiece of a four-player recruiting class for Kansas State women’s basketball, which announced its signings on Wednesday.

Gatewood, a 5-foot-6 guard from Glenn Heights, Texas, is considered a three-star prospect and a Top 40 point guard in the country. Thanks in part to Gatewood, the class is ranked No. 23 in the country by All-Star Girls Report.

Gatewood plays for DeSoto High School, and one of her current teammates signed with the Wildcats as well. Ja’Mia Harris is a 5-foot-8 guard who was the 2020 Texas 6A Offensive MVP and averaged 15 points per game.

Gatewood and Harris led DeSoto to 28 wins and a Class 6A state title last season.

The other two signees are Mikayla Parks of Norman, Oklahoma and Eliza Maupin of Webster Groves, Missouri.

Parks, a 5-foot-9 guard, has helped Norman High School to a pair of Class 6A state titles and has averaged 11 points, four rebounds and two assists in her high school career.

Maupin is the only forward in the class. At 6-foot-2, Maupin is a Top 100 prospect in the country who averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots per game last season. In addition, she is a two-time state champion in the high jump and holds the schools’ long jump record.

Kansas State is coming off a 103-40 win over Central Arkansas in which forward Ayoka Lee set a school record with 43 points. The Wildcats begin play in the Preseason Women’s NIT on Friday against UT Martin at Bramlage Coliseum.
