Kansas Jayhawks Women Ink Two In Early Signing Period

NCAA Basketball: Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

The Kansas Jayhawks women’s basketball team signed two players on the first day of the early signing period on Wednesday.

Kansas announced the signings via social media but did not send out a release. Head coach Brandon Schneider retweeted the announcements.

The two signees are Bella Swedlund, a 5-foot-8 guard from Winner, South Dakota, and Zsofia Telegdy, a 6-foot-3 forward from Budapest, Hungary.

Swedlund was a SDBCA 1st-team Class A All-State selection in 2020.

Telegdy continues the Jayhawks’ international pipeline. The roster currently has players from Macedonia, Croatia, Greece, Sweden, Denmark and Canada.

Kansas opened its season on Wednesday night and defeated Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 98-62. Aniya Thomas led the way with 25 points while Zakiyah Franklin added 11 points. Taiyanna Jackson had 10 points and a team-high five steals, along with five points.

Kansas plays its next three games at Allen Fieldhouse, beginning with Tennessee State on Nov. 14. After that, the Jayhawks host Omaha on Nov. 17 and St. Louis on Nov. 21. After that, Kansas moves to the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they’ll play national power Tennessee and UTEP on consecutive nights.

Kansas is coming off a 7-18 season in 2020-21, with a 3-15 record in the Big 12 Conference. Wednesday’s win snapped a nine-game losing streak for Kansas
