AP Top 25 Women: Texas Soars After Stanford Win

NCAA Basketball: Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

The Texas Longhorns moved up 13 spots after their upset of No. 3 Stanford on Sunday, claiming the No. 12 spot in the AP Top 25 Women’s Basketball Top 25, released on Tuesday.

Four Big 12 teams started the season in the Top 25 preseason poll.

Baylor moved up one spot to No. 6. After Texas, Iowa State slid down two spots to No. 14 and West Virginia slid three spots to No. 22. Oklahoma received four votes.

Texas was No. 25 in the preseason poll and started the week by destroying New Orleans at home by 95 points. Then, on Sunday, the Longhorns beat defending national champion Stanford, 61-56, leading to their 13-spot jump in the poll.

The Longhorns hosts Southeast Missouri on Wednesday before playing another huge non-conference matchup on Sunday, which is at No. 16 Tennessee.

The Bears, who were No. 7 in the preseason poll, went 2-0 in their first week under new head coach Nicki Collen, who also inked a pair of Top 75 recruits in her first early signing period.

The Bears have a home game on Monday against New Orleans before they square off in their first matchup with a ranked team this season, as they face No. 3 Maryland on Sunday.

Iowa State was No. 12 in the preseason poll and it played just one game last week, but in that game Emily Ryan tied a school record for most steals in a game with nine. The Cyclones have a three-game week, starting with hosting South Dakota State on Monday. After that, Iowa State travels to Drake on Thursday and then hosts Southern on Sunday.

West Virginia was No. 19 in the preseason poll. The Mountaineers are the only Big 12 that hasn’t played a game yet. WVU takes care of that on Tuesday with an opener against Saint Francis (PA), followed by a Friday matchup with Kennesaw State and a Sunday game with Radford. All three games are in Morgantown.

Oklahoma was the only other Big 12 teams to receive votes in the preseason poll.

Oklahoma won its first two games under new head coach Michelle Baranczyk. The Sooners host Central Arkansas on Tuesday before traveling to The Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, where the Sooners will start by facing Oregon.
