Seven Big 12 teams are projected to make bowl games, according to BowlSeason.com, which announced its second projections on Wednesday.
BowlSeason.com waited until the third College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night to announce their third projections.
Oklahoma State, which is now the highest-ranked Big 12 team in the AP Top 25 and in the College Football Playoffs, hopped into a New Year’s Six bowl in this week’s projections. The Cowboys would play Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
The Cowboys are No. 9 in the College Football Playoff rankings and still have a chance to complete for one of the four playoff berths.
Baylor leapfrogged Oklahoma in the rankings as well, after the Bears defeated the Sooners last weekend. That changed Baylor’s bowl projection as well. The Bears are now projected to face Missouri in the Texas Bowl on Jan. 4, which is the last bowl game before the national championship game.
Oklahoma, which fell out of the Top 10 in the AP poll and in the College Football Playoff rankings, have a new projection this week. The Sooners are projected to play Arizona State in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29 in San Antonio.
Iowa State is now projected to play Mississippi State in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 28. The Cyclones are coming off a loss to Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders, who reached bowl eligibility with that win over the Cyclones, are now projected to play Minnesota in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Dec. 28.
Kansas State saw its bowl projection change once again. Now, the Wildcats are projected to face NC State in the Cheez-It Bowl on Dec. 29.
TCU, which needs two wins to reach a bowl game, is part of the projections this week. The Horned Frogs are projected to face Army in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 22. That would represent a ‘home’ game for TCU, since the game annually played at the Horned Frogs’ home stadium.
All four future Big 12 members are projected to play in bowl games.
Houston is projected to face Boston College in the Fenway Bowl on Dec. 29. BYU is projected to face Marshall in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 18. UCF is projected to face Appalachian State in the Cure Bowl on Dec. 17. Cincinnati is projected to face Michigan State in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1.
