People in Stillwater are excited, as they should be, about how dominant the Cowboys have been defensively in 2021. If you are one of those people, here’s something else that you’ll definitely be excited about. While speaking with FOX’s Joel Klatt, Mike Gundy hinted that the man behind that defense, Jim Knowles, is going to be in town for a while according to a tweet from Marshall Levenson from Pokes Report:
Knowles absolutely deserves an extension, if not more, after his transformation of the Cowboys’ defense. That unit was ranked 85th in 2017 before Knowles was hired, but now currently ranks third nationally in total defense. The Cowboys currently rank 5th or better nationally in the following statistics: Total Defense, Rush Defense, Third Down Defense, Sacks, and TFLs.
Knowles and his unit are the biggest reason that OSU is most likely headed to the program’s first Big 12 Championship in 2021. That’s why it is imperative that Gundy and Athletic Director Chad Weiberg find a way to keep him around long-term, and it certainly sounds like they have.
Oklahoma State travels to Lubbock this weekend to take on Texas Tech and will host Oklahoma in the season finale next week.
