Last week, Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman reported that Ex-Longhorn Brian Jones claims to know five or six “heavy-handed donors” that are pressuring Steve Sarkisian to play certain players based on their race. Jones said in the interview that he “thought we were all in this to win, and there’s no way you’re going to win when you’re asking or trying to dictate to your head coach who plays and in some instances, it’s crossing color lines, which is definitely unfortunate.
On Monday, Steve Sarkisian was interviewed by Davis and had this to say about the allegations:
“It’s a little unfortunate. I wish Brian would have reached out to me before making those comments. I can tell you guys, clearly, no donor has ever told me anything to do or suggested anything to do.”
This is, clearly, the response you would expect from anyone in the Texas program surrounding the allegations. Athletic Director Chris Del Conte called the claim “absolutely absurd” when responding to the reports last week.
Can you imagine the backlash if this was to hold any water? Texas is already a sinking ship and this would absolutely obliterate any sort of momentum the Longhorns could build going into the offseason.
Texas will close out its season on Black Friday when the Longhorns host Kansas State.
