Everyone in the Texas football program has stated that Steve Sarkisian has their full support through a tough transitional year for the first-year head coach. Well, oddsmakers aren’t buying it. Sarkisian is the second-most likely coach to be fired behind Manny Daiz at Miami. Diaz is at 2/1 odds to be ousted, whereas Sark is 3/1. The full odds from BetOnline.ag are listed below:
|Manny Diaz (Miami)||2/1|
|Steve Sarkisian (Texas)||3/1|
|Geoff Collins (Georgia Tech)||6/1|
|Dino Babers (Syracuse)||7/1|
|Jeff Scott (USF)||7/1|
|Scott Frost (Nebraska)||7/1|
|David Shaw (Stanford)||8/1|
|Mike Bloomgren (Rice)||8/1|
|Ken Niumatalolo (Navy)||12/1|
I guess if you’re Vegas, talk is cheap! It has been nothing but support from Texas brass after the “heartbreaking” loss to Kansas two weeks ago, and the Longhorns have lost to West Virginia since then, stretching the losing streak to six games. I would imagine that Sark will at least get one more season in Austin before he gets the boot, but crazier things have happened. Hell, Tom Herman got fired after a 7-3 season just 12 months removed from a Sugar Bowl win over Georgia! There were other things going on in Austin at the time, but Herman produced results; results that nobody else besides Mack Brown has in Austin since the turn of the century. Will Sark get a fair shot? I guess we’ll find out.
Texas closes its season against Kansas State on Black Friday at 11:00am on FOX.
