Oklahoma Sooners

Bob Stoops Makes Statement on Florida Rumors

NCAA Football: Ohio State at Oklahoma

I hope you listened to us on Monday and stayed away from the betting favorite to be the next man at Florida. It always seemed like a longshot that Stoops would come out of retirement, but with his old buddy Steve Spurrier in an ambassador role for the Gators, anything was possible. Well, maybe not anything. According to Matt Revis, on-air producer of The Sports Animal in Oklahoma, Stoops had this to say in regards to the Florida job:

“I love what I’m doing with TV…I enjoy watching my son play, and the Sooners…I’m not looking to get in to that [job].

He did add that Florida was one of the best jobs in the country and that he has great memories there. However, It sounds like Stoops will remain on-set with Big Noon Kickoff on FOX and off the sidelines in Gainesville. Stoops has been noticeably happy in his current role, and I’m sure that it is extremely important to him that he is able to watch his son, Drake, play at Oklahoma.

AT the end of the day, the question was why would Stoops go back into a position like that when his career already speaks for itself? The winningest coach in Oklahoma football history is retired, and it looks like he intends to keep it that way.
