Baylor, Iowa State and Texas all remained in the Top 15 in the AP Top 25 Women’s Basketball Top 25, which was released on Monday.
They were four Big 12 teams in the Top 25 this week:
Baylor at No. 5;
Iowa State at No. 14;
Texas at No. 15.
And West Virginia at No. 25.
Baylor (6-1) was in Cancun, Mexico, for the Cancun Challenge last week. The Bears defeated Fordham, 68-45, in the opening round. The Bears then beat Arizona State, 62-52, and beat Houston, 74-58, to win the Challenge. Baylor hosts Morehead State on Tuesday and Missouri on Saturday in its Big 12-SEC Challenge game.
Texas (4-1) played just one game last week, beating CSUN, 83-42, at the Erwin Center. The Longhorns host Jackson State on Wednesday and then travel to Texas A&M on Sunday for its Big 12-SEC Challenge game. Texas head coach Vic Schaefer worked for Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair at two different stops before taking the Mississippi State job in 2012.
Iowa State (7-0) was in Estero, Florida, for the Gulf Coast Showcase last week. The Cyclones started the Showcase with a 75-59 win against Charlotte. The Cyclones then beat to Penn State, 93-59, and then beat UMass, 76-71, to win the Showcase. The Cyclones are at LSU on Thursday in their Big 12-SEC Challenge game and then host Longwood on Sunday.
West Virginia (4-1) was at the St. Pete Showcase in St. Petersburg, Florida, last week. The Mountaineers opened the Showcase with a 65-57 win against Purdue and followed it with a 58-57 loss to future Big 12 member BYU. The Mountaineers are at Kentucky on Wednesday for their Big 12-SEC Challenge game.
Also receiving votes for the Big 12 was Oklahoma with one.
The entire poll featured No. 1 South Carolina, (tie) No. 2 NC State and UConn, No. 4 Stanford, No. 5 Baylor, No. 6 Indiana, No. 7 Arizona, No. 8 Maryland, No. 9 Iowa, No. 10 Louisville, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 12 Michigan, No. 13 South Florida, No. 14 Iowa State, No. 15 Texas, No. 16 Kentucky, No. 17 Texas A&M, (tie) No. 18 Ohio State and Oregon, No. 20 Georgia, No. 21 Florida Gulf Coast, No. 22 Oregon State, No. 23 Notre Dame, No. 24 Florida State and No. 25 West Virginia.
