Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has been linked to the Oklahoma job after Lincoln Riley took the head coaching vacancy at USC on Sunday. Despite the reports that he was a candidate for the job, Kingsbury dodged questions about the Sooners coaching vacancy on Monday:
“I don’t get into those things,” Kingsbury told the media Monday. “My sole focus the last couple of weeks has been the Chicago Bears, and after watching them on Thanksgiving, it needs to be … We’re in season, we’re 9-2, just not a topic I wanna touch on right now.”
While at Texas Tech, Kingsbury only produced winning seasons in two out of six years. However, when the Cardinals made splash and hired him as their head coach something must’ve clicked. The Cardinals currently sit at an NFL-best 9-2 and Kingsbury is the frontrunner for NFL Coach of the Year.
Now, the difference between resources in Lubbock and Norman is vast. That very week could make the difference in Kingsbury being successful at the college level, but we will have to wait and see if that is even a possibility.
What do we make of Kliff dodging questions about the job? Well, it could mean that he truly isn’t concerned with Oklahoma right now and is focused on his team and where is right now. But, man, that sounds awfully familiar, doesn’t it Sooner fans?
