Oklahoma WR Theo Wease Enters Transfer Portal

NCAA Football: Big 12 Championship-Baylor vs Oklahoma

The hits keep coming at Oklahoma, and they probably will for a while after the events of the past weekend. On Monday, 247Sports’ Joey Helmer announced that Theo Wease, former five-star receiver, has entered the transfer portal.

This report comes just after Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler announced via Twitter that he intended to do the same after a disappointing 2021 season. There is a mass exodus in Norman right now, after offensive-guru Lincoln Riley took the USC job on Sunday.

Wease has been a promising target when on the field, garnering 45 receptions for 666 yard and six touchdowns. The story of this season however, has been injuries. He missed the entire 2021 season with a foot injury, the same injury that kept him out during spring ball. He was cleared to practice at full capacity during the summer, but reaggravated the injury, leading to missing the season.

With coaching changes on the horizon for Oklahoma, several players will probably look elsewhere for opportuinities, but if Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione can act quickly in getting a staff in place, they might be able to salvage the roster, including pieces like Wease. As of right now, Norman is burning and everyone seems to be jumping ship. Only time will tell how long it will be before the fires are put out and playing football becomes the top concern again.

Wease was a member of the 2019 recruiting class, which had three five-star receivers in Jadon Haselwood, Trejan Bridges (dismissed), and Theo Wease.
