The Big 12 Conference announced individual award winners on Thursday. Selections were made by the league’s 10 head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players. The Big 12 football regular season wrapped up on Saturday and this weekend the Big 12 Championship Game will take place between the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Baylor Bears. Kick off is set for 11:00 a.m. on ABC.
Mike Gundy has been named the Chuck Neinas Big 12 Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. Meantime, Breece Hall is the fourth player to earn two Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honors and the third to do it in consecutive years. Meantime, Jalen Pitre is the third Baylor player to be recognized as Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year along with James Lynch (2019) and Andrew Billings (2015). He is the first DB since 2013 (Jason Verrett, TCU).

Jaylen Warren is Oklahoma State’s third Offensive Newcomer of the Year along with Tyreek Hill (2014) and Adarius Bowman (2006). Siaki Ika captured Baylor’s first Defensive Newcomer of the Year. Xavier Worthy is the sixth Texas player to earn Offensive Freshman of the Year and the first since Colt McCoy in 2006.
