Baylor senior defensive back, Jalen Pitre, has been a swiss army knife for the Bears all season long. If there was a play made on defense, he probably had a hand in the outcome. His stat line may not “wow” you at first, but the longer that you look at it, the more you realize that he does everything for the Bears.
He has recorded 63 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and five PBU’s. That is a safety playing his role to perfection in Dave Aranda’s defense.
For his efforts this season, Pitre has been named the 2021 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
According to the official Big 12 website, Pitre is the first defensive back to win the award since Jason Verrett did it with TCU in 2013.
Pitre and the Baylor defense will try to avenge one of their losses this season when they take on Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship on Saturday. They lost on the road to the Cowboys 24-14 back in October, but both teams have improved mightily since then.
Baylor is likely headed to the Sugar with a win or a loss, but it would like to spoil the Cowboys playoff hopes and hoist its third Big 12 Championship since 2013.
