Iowa State Remains Undefeated With Victory over Creighton

NCAA Basketball: UNLV at San Diego State

Iowa State remained undefeated for the season after beating Creighton, 64-58, in the latest game of the Big 12-Big East Battle on Saturday night.

With the victory, the Big 12 has a 2-1 lead in the annual set of games between the two conferences.

The Cyclones (8-0) were tied with the Blue Jays, 23-23, at the break, but the Cyclones pulled away with a solid second half, building a near-double digit lead and maintaining it the rest of the second half.

Caleb Grill came off the bench to score 16 points for the Cyclones (including a 4-for-4 night from the 3-point line), while Izaiah Brockington scored 12.

It was the first meeting between Iowa State head coach T.J. Otzelberger and Creighton head coach Greg McDermott since Otzelberger took over the Cyclones. Otzelberger served as an assistant coach under McDermott when the latter coached at Iowa State.

On Friday, Kansas handled St. John’s, 95-75, on the road in Elmont, New York. Christian Braun had a huge night for the Jayhawks, scoring 31 points, while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out four assists. Also in double figures in scoring were Ochai Agbaji (23), David McCormack (15) and Remy Martin (12). McCormack had a double-double, grabbing 13 rebounds.

The Big 12-Big East Battle continues on Sunday when Oklahoma State hosts Xavier.
