Baylor Bears to Play Ole Miss in Sugar Bowl

The Baylor Bears are heading to a New Year’s Six bowl game for the second time in three seasons as they clinched a spot in the Sugar Bowl where they will take on the Ole Miss Rebels.

Baylor is coming off their first ever Big 12 Championship Game victory after beating Oklahoma State 21-16 on Saturday afternoon at AT&T Stadium. Freshman quarterback Blake Shapen set a Big 12 Championship and AT&T Stadium record by completing his first 17 passes. Plus, the Baylor defense picked off Spencer Sanders four times. For the Bears, it’s their third Big 12 Title and first since 2014.

Oh, and if you haven’t seen Dave Aranda’s reaction to the game-winning play, it’s a must watch.

Baylor finished the season with an 11-2 record, which is even more impressive given that the Bears won just two games in 2020, Aranda’s first year as Baylor coach after taking over for Matt Rhule, who left to coach the Carolina Panthers.

As for Baylor’s opponent, the Ole Miss Rebels were one of the surprises in college football this season. They finished with a 10-2 record, with their only losses coming at Alabama and at Auburn. This was good for a second place finish in the SEC West.

No. 7 Baylor is 1-1 in two Sugar Bowl appearances, while No. 8 Ole Miss has won of six of their seven appearances in the Sugar Bowl.

Baylor and Ole Miss have only met once in their history, with Baylor winning 20-10 back in 1975.

The Sugar Bowl is set to kick off at 7:45 CST on January 1st.
