The Iowa State Cyclones 2021 season did not live up the expectations, as they were ranked in the preseason Top 10, but the program still has an opportunity to end the season on a high note. Iowa State will play in the Cheez-It Bowl against the Clemson Tigers in Orlando, Florida at Camping World Stadium.
Iowa State finished the 2021 season with a 7-5 record and went 5-4 in Big 12 Conference play. Their best win of the season came at home against No. 8 Oklahoma State, who they beat 24-21. But after that victory, the Cyclones would go on to lose three of four games and drop out of the Big 12 Title race, which they were expected to compete in for a second-straight season.
In recent days, Iowa State fans have been holding their breath with multiple big-time jobs open, with their head coach Matt Campbell‘s name tied to many of them. However, it looks like, once again, Campbell is staying put, proving his loyalty remains in Ames.
Iowa State is 2-2 in bowl games under Matt Campbell, with the best victory coming last season in a 34-17 win over Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl.
The Cyclones will take on a Clemson Tigers team that was expected to find itself in another College Football Playoff this year, but came up well short of expectations with a 9-3 finish. Their three losses were to Georgia, NC State and Pittsburgh. They finished tied for second in the Atlantic Division of the ACC.
The Cheez-It Bowl will kick off at 4:45 CT on December 29th on ESPN.
