Iowa State wide receiver Joe Scates has announced that he will enter the transfer portal and look to finish his career somewhere other than Ames, Iowa.
Scates, a former four-star recruit in the 2018 class from Dayton, Ohio has been a Cyclone for four years and wants to use his last two years of eligibility elsewhere. Here is his announcement on Monday via Twitter:
This is the second Iowa State upperclassman receiver to enter the portal in a week, as Tarique Milton announced the same intentions early last week. It seems as if the young talent in the wide receiver room is starting to push for more playing time and force out some of the older players to look elsewhere.
Jaylin Noel and Daniel Jackson are promising pieces for the Cyclones moving forward and the skill position depth for Iowa State should be just fine. After all, Scates played sparingly over three seasons with Iowa State, recording 16 catches for 304 yards and four touchdowns.
