Oklahoma LB Brian Asamoah Declares for 2022 NFL Draft

Oklahoma will already be missing the majority of its coaching staff and several players that have entered the transfer portal when the Sooners take on Oregon in the Alamo Bowl later this month. Then, as expected, Nik Bonitto and Perrion Winfrey declared for the 2022 NFL Draft, effectively removing them from the Oklahoma roster as well.
In a somewhat surprising decision, linebacker Brian Asamoah has decided to bet on himself and declare for the draft as well. That means the Oklahoma defense will be without its sack leader, TFL leader, and leading tackler when they take on the Ducks.
Here is Asamoah’s declaration and message to his coaches, teammates, family, and friends via Twitter on Wednesday:
Asamoah led Oklahoma with 80 tackles on the year and has been a bright spot for the Sooners’ defense in a disappointing season. His position coach, Brian Odom, is no longer with Oklahoma, nor is any other preexisting member of the Sooners defensive staff before Brent Venables was hired on Sunday.
In his absence, Oklahoma will turn to David Ugwoegbu and DeShaun White as the starting linebackers, with freshman Danny Stutsman sure to make an appearance as well.
Interim head coach Bob Stoops will lead Oklahoma into San Antonio to take on the Oregon Ducks on December 29th in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
