Oklahoma State is set to face Notre Dame in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl on New Years’ Day, but it sounds like the Fighting Irish will be without two of their best players.
Safety Kyle Hamilton and running back Kyren Williams have declared for the 2022 NFL draft and both players have opted out of the Fiesta Bowl in a few weeks.
Hamilton, the No. 1 player in the CBS Sports NFL Draft prospect rankings, leaves Notre Dame with 139 tackles, 24 passes defended, and eight interceptions in his career, cementing himself as one of the top players in college football. Kyren William, while not as highly touted as Hamilton, will still have his name called in April and finished his career in South Bend with back-to-back 1,000 yard rushing seasons.
As for how this affects OSU, the game probably flipped thoroughly into the Cowboys’ favor. Not only is Notre Dame without Brian Kelly and other members of his staff for this game, but replacing Hamilton and Williams will be a tall task against one of the best teams in the country. I was looking for this to be a close anyway, but now that the Fighting Irish is without their leading rusher, I expect Jim Knowles to send pressure a bunch in his final game with the Pokes.
