Texas Safety B.J. Foster Enters Transfer Portal

B.J. Foster, former five-star recruit and No. 3 safety in the 2018 recruiting class per 247Sports, has entered the transfer portal. Foster has been a contributor for the Longhorns since he stepped on campus in 2018, and started all 12 games for Texas during the 2021 season. He led Texas with three interceptions and tied for sixth on the team with 47 tackles.
In all, Foster made 28 starts over four seasons. totaling 169 tackles, 16 passes defended, and five interceptions.
Chris Amidora, a junior defensive back for Texas, has also entered his name into the transfer portal. Amidora was a four-star safety in the 2019 class and was ranked as the 17th best player in the state of Texas at the time. Though not as highly recruited as Foster, Amidora appeared in eight games this season and started all 10 games last year. The Longhorns’ secondary has been part of s suspect defense all season, and losing two contributors in the portal will force young talent to step into the fire quickly.
Coach Steve Sarkisian has his hands full trying to rebuild Texas football one brick at a time, and losing depth in the secondary two players at a time won’t help his cause. Who knows, maybe Texas has a couple of young stars in the making; they have been the best in the Big 12 at recruiting over the last five years. I’ll believe it when I see it though because Texas is also the best in the conference at doing less with more in that span.
