Oklahoma State Lands Top JUCO Linebacker Target Xavier Benson

NCAA Football: Tulsa at Oklahoma State

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have landed one of their big targets as JUCO linebacker Xavier Benson has committed to the Pokes.

Benson shared the news on his Twitter page on Saturday afternoon.

Benson was at Texas Tech from 2018-20. He was a three-star prospect coming out of Texarkana, TX where he ranked as the No. 86 outside linebacker and No. 178 overall recruit regardless of position in Texas by the 247Sports Composite.

During his time in Lubbock, he started 10 games during redshirt freshman season in 2019, finishing with 57 total tackles, including 36 solos and four tackles for loss. Benson then opted out of the 2020 season before transferring to Tyler Junior College.

During the 2021 season there, Benson had a team-high 120 total tackles, including 15.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks. He had two interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and seven pass breakups, helping Tyler Junior College finish with a 7-5 overall record.

Oklahoma State holds 15 verbal commitments in the 2022 recruiting class and they hope Benson will help keep this defense as nasty as it was last season, despite losing defensive coordinator Jim Knowles to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Benson picked the Cowboys over offers from Indiana, Kansas, Memphis and Sam Houston State.
