Iowa State Moves Up As 3 Big 12 Women’s Teams Remain in AP Top 25

NCAA Womens Basketball: Big 12 Conference Tournament-Texas vs Iowa State

The Iowa State Cyclones women’s basketball team made a statement as the latest AP Top 25 Women’s Basketball Top 25 was released on Monday.

They were three Big 12 teams in the Top 25 this week:

Baylor at No. 5 (holding steady from last week);

Texas at No. 11 (holding steady from last week);

Iowa State at No. 12 (up three spot from last week’s No. 15).

Oklahoma received 63 votes and West Virginia received one vote. The Sooners were just outside the Top 25.

Iowa State (9-1) claimed its first win over a ranked team last Wednesday, and it was a big one, as the Cyclones defeated No. 12 Iowa, 77-70, in the Cy-Hawk Series in Ames. It was the first time in five seasons that Iowa State won the annual rivalry game. On Sunday, the Cyclones slid by another in-state rival, Northern Iowa, 70-69.

The Cyclones have one more game before Big 12 play begins on Jan. 2. They host Prairie View A&M on Dec. 19.

Baylor (9-1) took care of Alcorn State, 94-40, on Wednesday. The Bears are off until heading to Uncasville, Connecticut, on Dec. 19 to face No. 13 Michigan in the Naismith Women’s Challenge.

Texas (7-1) played just one game last week, hosting Idaho on Saturday and taking care of the Vandals, 83-43. The Longhorns aren’t in action until Sunday when they face No. 4 Arizona at the Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Challenge in Las Vegas.

Oklahoma (9-1) made its own statement on Friday when it hosted and defeated then-No. 16 BYU, 99-91, in overtime. But that wasn’t enough to boost them into the Top 25 just yet.

The entire poll featured No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 NC State, No. 3 Stanford, No. 4 Arizona, No. 5 Baylor, No. 6 Louisville, (tie) No. 7 UConn and Tennessee, No. 9 Maryland, No. 10 Indiana, No. 11 Texas, No. 12 Iowa State, No. 13 Michigan, No. 14 Iowa, No. 15 Duke, No. 16 USF, No. 17 Georgia, No. 18 Georgia Tech, No. 19 Kentucky, No. 20 BYU, No. 21 Notre Dame, No. 22 LSU, No. 23 Texas A&M, No. 24 Ohio State and No. 25 North Carolina.
