Lauren Heard is Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
TCU’s Lauren Heard was named the Big 12 Women’s Player of the Week after she scored 33 points in an upset victory over Texas A&M on Sunday.
In addition, Kansas State’s Serena Sundell was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week.
Heard and the Horned Frogs handed the Aggies a 12-point loss on Sunday in Fort Worth, marking their first win over a ranked team this season, their first win over the Aggies since 2009 and just their fifth win over the Aggies in 42 tries.
Heard was a huge reason why. She scored 33 points in the game, but she also went 18-of-21 at the free-throw line, with most of that coming in the fourth quarter as the Aggies were trying to rally.
TCU is now 4-4 on the season. The Horned Frogs host Incarnate Word on Sunday.
Sundell earned her second Big 12 Freshman of the Week award and marked the third straight week a Kansas State freshman has won the award. Brylee Glenn won it last week, while Sundell won it two weeks earlier.
This time, Sundell helped the Wildcats win two road games, averaging 14 points per game while shooting 58.3 percent from the 3-point line. She had a double-double — 16 points and 10 assists — against South Dakota State and helped K-State tie the school record for 3-pointers made in a game in a 87-56 win over Omaha.
Kansas State is preparing to host Oregon on Saturday.
