Taz Sherman is Big 12 Men’s Player of the Week

NCAA Basketball: Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

Taz Sherman of West Virginia became the first player in the conference to earn a second Big 12 Men’s Player of the Week award on Monday.

In addition, Iowa State guard Izaiah Brockington was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award, his second weekly recognition of the season.

Sherman was previously named the Big 12 Player of the Week for Nov. 22.

Last week Sherman averaged 25 points, 5.5 rebounds and three assists as the Mountaineers won both games, including a victory over ranked UConn, a game in which Sherman scored a game-high 23 points. He followed that up with a game-high 27 points against Kent State on Sunday.

The Mountaineers have just one loss this season, but are still outside the AP Top 25.

Brockington, who transferred to Iowa State from Penn State in the offseason, helped the Cyclones go 2-0 last week and move to No. 11 in the new AP Top 25. He helped the Cyclones claim one of the week’s most impressive victories, a 20-point win over Iowa in their annual Cy-Hawk game. Brockington had a double-double in that game, scoring 29 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. For the week he averaged 19 points and 8.5 rebounds
