Iowa State All-American DE Will McDonald IV Returning for Senior Season

Iowa State football got a big lift on Thursday night when All-American defensive end Will McDonald IV announced on Twitter he will return for his senior season.
Here is what McDonald shared on his social media page.
“I am coming back for my senior season to ensure I am the best player I can possibly be before I go to the NFL,” McDonald wrote. “I am coming back for my senior season to help Cyclone football sustain success. I am coming back for my senior season to hear Cyclone nation rise up on 3rd down a few more times.”
McDonald’s is the all-time leader at Iowa State with 29 sacks. He also broke his own school single-season record with 11.5 sacks in 2021. He he was named a first-team All-Big 12 selection by Heartland College Sports, along with being named a third-team AP All-American.
The Iowa State defense has been one of the best in the Big 12 in recent seasons under defensive coordinator Jon Heacock, and while there are plenty of pieces leaving from the 2021 team, bringing back the best pass rusher in the Big 12 is a big lift for Matt Campbell’s team as they look to get back into the conference title race next season.
