West Virginia’s second-leading receiver announced his return for 2022, as junior pass-catcher Bryce Ford-Wheaton has decided to run it back.
Ford-Wheaton had 40 receptions for 560 yards and three scores in 2021, including a monster game against Iowa State where he hauled in six receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
His announcement was made on Thursday via Twitter.
Wheaton was second only to Winston Wright Jr., who had 60 receptions for 672 yards and five touchdowns on the year. Wright Jr. has yet to announce his intentions for 2022, but if head coach Neal Brown could convince the duo to return together, it would help offset the loss of Leddie Brown, who declared for the NFL Draft on Thursday afternoon. That duo paired with the Big 12’s second-leading passer in Jarret Doege would be a good starting place for coach Brown to start in the offseason.
Wheaton missed the season finale against Kansas after sustaining an injury against Texas, but should be back for the bowl game.
West Virginia takes on Minnesota in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on December 28 in Phoenix, Arizona.
