Oklahoma WR Theo Wease Will Return In 2022

Oklahoma’s football program got a big boost today as former five-star receiver Theo Wease has officially removed his name from the transfer portal. The 2019 signee was ranked as the No. 3 receiver in the class and has shown big-play flashes throughout his career at Oklahoma. In 2020, Wease tied for the team-lead in receptions with 37, totaling 530 yards and 6 scores in 11 games.
Wease missed all of 2021 with a foot injury and was set to have a huge role in Oklahoma’s offense under Lincoln Riley. Now, as things have changed drastically, he will be the only member of the “Big 5” from the 2019 class playing for the Sooners in 2022, as the other four are no longer with the program.
- QB Spencer Rattler (Transfer to South Carolina)
- Austin Stogner (Transfer to South Carolina)
- Jadon Haselwood (Transfer to Arkansas)
- Trejan Bridges (Arrested for Armed Robbery)
Theo Wease staying is a positive indicator that quarterback Caleb Williams could be doing the same, as the two reportedly have great chemistry in practice. In all likelihood, Sooner Nation won’t know Caleb Williams’ fate until after the bowl game, but this doesn’t hurt their chances for escaping heartbreak.
Something worth noting is that at Oklahoma, once a player enters the transfer portal they opt out of the bowl game. That rule is in-house and could be changed, but do not expect to see Wease out there when Bob Stoops leads the Sooners against Oregon in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
