Big 12 Men Have Seven Solid Berths in Latest ESPN Bracketology

NCAA Basketball: Big 12 Basketball Tipoff

The Big 12 men ended up with seven solid seeds in the most recent NCAA Tournament Bracketology released by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi over the weekend.

Solid, in this case, means there are no Big 12 teams in the ‘last four in’ or the ‘first four out’ in the bracket. Additionally, none of them are slotted for a ‘first four’ game.

The Baylor Bears remained the No. 1 overall seed, keeping them in line for a matchup against a First Four opponent, in this case either Campbell or Texas Southern. The Bears anchor the South Region in Lunardi’s projections and have the nation’s longest winning streak.

Joining Baylor in the South Region is Texas Tech, which moved up a seed line to No. 7 and would face Iowa in the first round. The Red Raiders lost to Gonzaga on Saturday.

Other takeaways:

A week after Texas Tech was the only Big 12 team flying solo in a region, it’s West Virginia that gets the honor, as the Mountaineers would be a No. 11 seed in the West Region and face Kentucky in the first round. That would set up a matchup with former WVU big man Oscar Tshiebwe.

Oklahoma and Texas Tech both moved up a seed line, while the rest of the Big 12 teams remained in their current seed spots.

Along with the seven Big 12 teams, three future Big 12 teams are in the field — BYU, Houston and UCF. The fourth, Cincinnati, is one of the ‘next four out’ on Lunardi’s board.

An eight Big 12 member, TCU, is within shouting distance of the tournament. Like Cincinnati, the Horned Frogs are one of the ‘next four out.’
