Baylor Maintains No. 1 Spot, Leads Three Big 12 Teams in AP Top 10

The Baylor Bears, who remained undefeated after beating Oregon, lead three Big 12 teams in the Top 10 of the latest Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25, released on Monday.
Five Big 12 teams are in the Top 25 and two additional Big 12 teams are knocking on the door of the poll as the holidays approach.
The AP Top 25 included the following Big 12 teams:
No. 1 Baylor (at No.1 for the second straight week);
No. 7 Kansas (at No. 7 for the second straight week);
No. 9 Iowa State (up two spots from last week’s No. 11);
No. 16 Texas (up one spot from last week’s No. 17);
No. 25 Texas Tech (at No 25 for the second straight week).
Oklahoma received 65 votes, while West Virginia received 57 votes in the poll. Based on the poll, Oklahoma is basically No. 26 and West Virginia is basically No. 27.
All seven teams are part of the most recent NCAA Tournament Bracketology by ESPN.
Baylor (10-0) won its only game of the week, a 78-70 road win over Oregon on Saturday. The Bears have the longest win streak in the country and host two more games at home before the start of Big 12 play — Alcorn State on Dec. 20 and Northwestern State on Dec. 28.
Kansas (9-1) won its only matchup of last week, outlasting Stephen F. Austin at home, 80-72. Kansas is at Colorado on Dec. 21 and hosts Harvard on Dec. 29 before starting Big 12 action.
Iowa State (11-0) defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 77-54, on Sunday. The Cyclones host Chicago State on Dec. 21 and then take the rest of the year off before Big 12 action.
Texas (8-2) won both game last week, defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 63-31, and Stanford, 60-53, the latter of which came in the Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Challenge.
Texas hosts Rice on Dec. 22 and Incarnate Word on Dec. 28 before Big 12 play begins.
Texas Tech (8-2) held steady after splitting its matchups last week. The Red Raiders defeated Arkansas State, 75-62, and then lost to Gonzaga, 69-55, at the Jerry Colangelo Classic. Texas Tech hosts Eastern Washington on Dec. 22 and Alabama State on Dec. 28.
Oklahoma (9-2) beat UT Arlington, 70-50, after an eight-day layoff. The Sooners host Alcorn State on Dec. 22 and then take the rest of the year off before opening Big 12 play.
West Virginia (10-1) defeated UAB on the road, 65-59, in its only game last week. The Mountaineers have a home game with Youngstown State on Dec. 22 to wrap up action in December.
The entire poll featured No. 1 Baylor, No. 2. Duke, No. 3 Purdue, No. 4 Gonzaga, No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 Arizona, No. 7 Kansas, No. 8 USC, No. 9 Iowa State, No. 10 Alabama, No. 11 Michigan State, No. 12 Auburn, No. 13 Houston, No. 14 Ohio State, No. 15 Seton Hall, No. 16 Texas, No. 17 LSU, No. 18 Xavier, No. 19 Tennessee, No. 20 Kentucky, No. 21 Colorado State, No. 22 Providence, No. 23 Villanova, No. 24 Wisconsin and No. 25 Texas Tech.
