Baylor Bears

Big 12 Men’s Basketball Power Rankings: Week 7

NCAA Basketball: Southeastern Louisiana at Iowa State

The Baylor Bears remained No. 1 in the Heartland College Sports Big 12 men’s basketball power rankings after Week 6 of the 2021-22 season. Our Power Rankings will appear every Monday.

1. BAYLOR (10-0) (Last Week: 1)

The No. 1 team in the country deserves to remain at the top of our power rankings. The fact that the Bears went to Oregon and took a solid victory on the road just reinforces that these Bears are growing into a team that is just as good as last year’s.

2. IOWA STATE (11-0) (Last Week: 2)

The Cyclones won their only game last week and have one more non-conference game and should wrap up November and December undefeated. The Cyclones get to make their statement on New Year’s Day when they face Baylor.

3. KANSAS (9-1) (Last Week: 3)

Stephen F. Austin pushed Kansas to the limit on Saturday, but the Jayhawks escaped with the win. They’re the real David McCormack away from being a potential Final Four team.

4. WEST VIRGINIA (10-1) (Last Week: 4)

The Mountaineers won their ‘mid-major danger’ game on the road at UAB and has just one more game before heading into Big 12 play. Right now WVU looks like the best of the remaining seven teams in the league.

5. OKLAHOMA (9-2) (Last Week: 6)

The Sooners should be 10-2 when these power rankings turn over in January. The progress the Sooners have made with a new head coach, Porter Moser, and a group of new players, is solid work.

6. TEXAS (8-2) (Last Week: 7)

The Longhorns finally beat a Power 5 team, beating Stanford at a neutral site. Now that Dylan Disu is on the floor, Texas has yet another option in its frontcourt. And he’s already making an impact.

7. TEXAS TECH (8-2) (Last Week: 5)

The Red Raiders missed their opportunity to make a statement win against Gonzaga on Saturday. But, being without Terrence Shannon Jr. didn’t help.

8. TCU (9-1) (Last Week: 8)

The Horned Frogs have won six straight. More important, the Horned Frogs have won back-to-back games against Texas A&M and Georgetown. That, along with the Utah win, means TCU has beaten three straight Power 5 or Big East teams. It’s an interesting track for a team that looked nearly listless a month ago.

9. KANSAS STATE (7-3) (Last Week: 9)

The Wildcats have won five of six, and the win over Nebraska on Sunday gave the Wildcats their first win over a Power 5 team.

10. OKLAHOMA STATE (7-4) (Last Week: 10)

The Cowboys remain at the bottom of the power rankings after a 1-1 week in which they needed overtime to beat Cleveland State and fall to Houston, which is in the Top 25. The Cowboys are still a competitive team in this conference. Don’t be surprised if, at some point, the Cowboys beat one of the top three teams in these power rankings at some point.
