Ohio State DB Transfer Ryan Watts Commits to Texas

NCAA Football: Texas at West Virginia

The transfer portal can go both ways. Sometimes it works against you and sometimes it can work for you. On Wednesday night, it was definitely in favor for the Texas Longhorns as they got a big-time player from the portal.

Former Ohio State cornerback Ryan Watts announced his commitment to Texas on his Twitter page on Wednesday.

Watts was a former four-star prospect in the 2020 signing class and he will be making his way back to the Lone Star State after moving from Little, Elm Texas to Columbus, Ohio last year.

Ryan played a total of 19 games with the Buckeyes the past two seasons where he totaled 11 career tackles and two interceptions. This past season, his two picks tied the team high for Ohio State.

As a recruit, Watts ranked No. 202 nationally, No. 32 in the state of Texas, and was the No. 18 safety in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

The former Buckeye entered his name in the portal just two weeks after Ohio State’s final game where they lost to Michigan. Even though he will be a new face in the burnt orange, Ryan looks like make an immediate impact when he arrives in Austin because the Longhorns definitely need some help on the defensive side of the football.
