Oklahoma State Starting DB Tanner McCalister Enters Transfer Portal

Tanner McCalister, who started all 13 games for the Cowboys in 2021, entered the transfer portal on Wednesday according to Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports.
The senior out of Rockwall, Texas, has one year of remaining eligibility due to COVID-19 and will use that year somewhere else in 2022.
In 13 games this year, McCalister recorded 34 tackles, five pass breakups, and one interception that came late in the fourth quarter to seal the Pokes win over Texas.
According to the Big 12, out of all Big 12 defensive backs with over 150 snaps on the season, McCalister ranked first in yards allowed per coverage snap, first in percent of successful defensive plays, and second in yards per target.
With McCalister’s departure, the Oklahoma State secondary could be completely overhauled in 2022. Senior safeties Kolby Harvell-Peel and Tre Sterling could be leaving after the Fiesta Bowl. If that trio leaves Stillwater, guys like Jason Taylor, Thomas Harper, and Kanion Willaims will get a chance to be the starters in the back end.
McCalister is the fourth Cowboy to enter the transfer portal this season, following offensive lineman Hunter Anthony, defensive tackle Jayden Jernigan and running back Dezmon Jackson, who entered the portal earlier this week as well.
Oklahoma State will face the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Day. That game kicks off at 12:00 p.m. CT and the Irish are currently favored by 1.5 points.
