Oklahoma CB Woodi Washington Returning for 2022 Season

NCAA Football: Oklahoma at Baylor

The Oklahoma Sooners are getting set to play in the Alamo Bowl against the Oregon Ducks, and while some players are skipping the game to prepare for the NFL Draft, don’t include Woodi Washington on the that list.

The Sooners cornerback is set to return for the 2022 season, as he confirmed during the Alamo Bowl press conference.

Washington came to Oklahoma with high expectations as a consensus four-star prospect, however he had very different rankings from the two major outlets, 247Sports and Rivals. Rivals had him ranked as the No. 51 prospect in the country, while 247Sports ranked him at No. 343. He chose Oklahoma over Tennessee, Ohio State and several others.

Washington redshirted in 2019 and then played in 10 games in 2020, while making five starts.

This season, Washington started the first two games of the season, before missing the next seven due to injury. He finished with five games played this season and four starts.

On the season, he has totaled 20 tackles (16 solo), two interceptions and a pass breakup. While Washington won’t be playing for the staff that recruited him, as a defensive player, getting to learn from Brent Venables seems like an opportunity for Washington to take his game to the next level as he hopes to prove himself capable of competing at the next level.

The Alamo Bowl kicks off at 8:15 on Wednesday, December 29th, from San Antonio, TX.
