Oklahoma State-Texas Tech Men’s Game Postponed to Jan. 13

The Oklahoma State-Texas Tech men’s basketball opener set for Jan. 1 has been postponed to Jan. 13 due to COVID-19 issues within the OSU program.
Both Oklahoma State and Texas Tech released statements about the game on Monday.
The game was to be played in Lubbock, and it still will. Jan. 13 falls on a Thursday, which means that both teams will play the following Saturday on two days’ rest.
This is the first men’s Big 12 game to be impacted by COVID-19. It is also the first game to be rescheduled using the new Big 12 game return-to-play rules that were adjusted last week. Among the adjustment was that games would not be considered forfeits, but be considered no-contests, and the league would do all it can to reschedule the game.
Texas Tech is still set to play against Alabama State on Dec. 28. But, the Red Raiders’ league opener will now be Jan. 5 at Iowa State. Due to the postponement, the Red Raiders will play eight conference games in 20 days from Jan. 5 to Jan. 24.
Oklahoma State will now open up Big 12 play on Jan. 4 against Kansas. Oklahoma State has not played a game since losing to Houston on Dec. 18. The Cowboys’ game with USC on Dec. 21 was cancelled due to COVID protocols within USC’s program.
The Oklahoma State women’s program is also battling COVID, which has forced the cancellation of its last two non-conference games. The Cowgirls are set to open with Texas on Sunday.
