Jamar Cain Spurns Lincoln Riley, Set to Join LSU Instead

Another coach on Lincoln Riley’s staff has jumped ship. Earlier this month, it was running backs coach Tashard Choice leaving USC to join the Texas Longhorns, and now defensive line coach Jamar Cain is headed to LSU.
According to Yahoo Sports writer Pete Thamel, Cain is set to join Brian Kelly’s staff as defensive line coach and run game coordinator.
Cain spent the last two seasons with the Oklahoma Sooners coaching defensive ends and outside linebackers and was expected to follow Lincoln Riley to USC. During his time at Oklahoma, the Sooners ranked third and first in the Big 12 in sacks, recording 37 sacks in 2020 and 33 sacks this season.
Before joining Oklahoma, Cain served as defensive line coach for Arizona State in 2019 and has also spent time at Fresno State and North Dakota State.
Cain is considered a top recruiter and according to 247Sports, he is credited with bringing three four-star edge players to the Sooners, including Clayton Smith of Texas High School.
Bringing in Cain is a big signing for Brian Kelly and LSU and it leaves yet another key hole in Lincoln Riley’s staff at USC.
