Kansas State’s Ayoka Lee is Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Ayoka Lee of Kansas State was named the Big 12 Women’s Player of the Week for the third time this season after leading the Wildcats to an upset of Baylor on Sunday.
In addition, Oklahoma’s Kelbie Washington was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week.
This is Washington’s first Freshman of the Week honor.
Lee was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Nov. 15 after setting a Kansas State record with 43 points in the season opener. She was also named Big 12 Player of the Week on Dec. 20.
Lee had 32 points — with 28 of those points coming in the second half — along with 10 rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks to lead the Wildcats past then-No. 10 Baylor, 68-59. The Wildcats had not beaten Baylor since 2004 and snapped a 36-game losing streak.
Lee leads the Big 12 in scoring, is among the Top 5 scorers in NCAA Division I and leads the nation in blocked shots.
Washington averaged 10.5 points, 10.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio while helping the Sooners to a 2-0 record and a move into the AP Top 25 at No. 23. Against Wichita State she scored 11 points, along with 14 assists, six rebounds and five steals, becoming the first Division I freshman since 2009-10 to post those numbers. The 14 assists set an OU freshman record.
