Iowa State Leaps Into Top 10 in Women’s AP Top 25

NCAA Womens Basketball: Big 12 Conference Tournament-Texas vs Iowa State

The Iowa State Cyclones are now a Top 10 team in the AP Top 25 Women’s Basketball Top 25 poll, which was released on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Big 12 has five ranked teams for the first time in 2022, including:

Iowa State at No. 9 (the Cyclones were No. 12 last week).

Texas at No. 13 (the Longhorns were No. 9 last week).

Baylor at No. 14 (the Bears were No. 14 last week).

Oklahoma at No. 23 (the Sooners were No. 23 last week).

Kansas State at No. 25 (the Wildcats were receiving votes last week).

Iowa State (14-1, 3-0) is one of two teams in the Big 12 that is still undefeated in league play, the other being Kansas State. The Cyclones took care of business last week, defeating Oklahoma, 81-71, and TCU, 78-47. Iowa State is now ramping up for two road games — at newly-ranked Kansas State on Tuesday and at Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Texas (11-2, 1-1) started last week with a loss at home to Texas Tech, 74-61. The Longhorns’ game with Baylor, set for Sunday, was postponed due to COVID issues at Baylor. But, Texas managed to get in a game on Sunday with UT-Rio Grande Valley, which the Longhorns won, 93-58. Texas is at home all this week, hosting Kansas on Wednesday and West Virginia on Saturday.

Baylor (10-3, 0-1) didn’t play at all last week, so its games with TCU and Texas were postponed. Assuming Baylor is clear to play this week, the Bears are at Oklahoma on Wednesday and at Kansas on Saturday.

Oklahoma (13-2, 2-1) split last week, losing to Iowa State, 81-71, and then beating Kansas, 82-68. The Sooners are back home to host Baylor on Wednesday and to host TCU on Saturday.

Kansas State (13-2, 3-0) is the only other Big 12 team undefeated in league play. The Wildcats won both of their road games last week, beating Oklahoma State, 60-49, and West Virginia, 71-61. Kansas State returns home to host Iowa State on Tuesday and then travels to Texas Tech on Saturday.

The entire poll featured No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 Louisville, No. 4 NC State, No. 5 Tennessee, No. 6 Indiana, No. 7 Arizona, No. 8 Maryland, No. 9 Iowa State, No. 10 UConn, No. 11 Michigan, No. 12 LSU, No. 13 Texas, No. 14 Baylor, No. 15 Georgia Tech, No. 16 Duke, No 17 Georgia, No. 18 BYU, No. 19 Kentucky, No. 20 Notre Dame, No. 21 North Carolina, No. 22 Colorado, No. 23 Oklahoma, No. 24 South Florida and No. 25 Kansas State.
